(QUINCY, Illinois) – After the recent completion of the football field, Quincy University now has three different Shaw Sports Turf products installed on three different fields within two years.
In 2014, the university began its $4 million project to re-model the baseball and football stadiums, after the soccer stadium had already been successfully completed. Quincy University is now covered with Shaw Sports Turf fields.
Prior to the project, the university athletics practiced on natural grass fields and would play games on local high school synthetic turf fields on Saturdays.
Due to the relationship that Quincy University formed with Shaw Sports Turf after the successful installations of both the soccer and baseball fields, it was no question of which turf provider that the university would use for the football field.
“Shaw Sports Turf has been tremendous in helping transform our facilities into some of the best in the Midwest,” said Marty Bell, Quincy University Director of Athletics. “Our fields look sharp and perform at the competitive level that our student-athletes deserve. Shaw Sports Turf has been a first-class organization in every respect as we continue to enhance the student-athlete experience.”
The QU men’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division II national semifinal after playing on its new Shaw Sports Turf field. The two-year-old turf on the soccer field has already played host to three Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournaments between the men’s and women’s teams and four NCAA Tournament games have been played on the surface.
The QU baseball team qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament as the top seed this spring after its first season with a Shaw Sports Turf infield.
“We are honored to have the relationship with Quincy University,” says Nathan Henderson, Shaw Sports Turf Territory Manager. “Having three of their fields, using three different Shaw Sports Turf products, shows the dedication that the university has to having first class facilities and sports programs.”
The three different Shaw Sports Turf products are PowerBlade Bolt, Truhop, and Legion.
PowerBlade Bolt is an engineered system specifically built for performance and to reflect light for a lower luster and more natural looking field, which is on the QU soccer field.
Truhop is the signature line of baseball turf that was uniquely created to be the closest thing to natural grass for baseball fields of all levels. Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz helped design the system.
The QU football field has the Legion synthetic turf system which features a combination of high-performance monofilament fiber with a durable slit film fiber, which is an amazingly soft and resilient playing surface with the performance and durability needed for multi-use fields.
